Day 1
Day 1: Arrival in Leh (3500m) Upon arrival in Leh, check in at your hotel and meet the Adventure Nation team. Today is dedicated to acclimatization, so it’s important to rest and avoid any strenuous activities. The rapid transition from a lower altitude to Leh's high elevation, which is significantly lower in oxygen, can increase the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). To help your body adjust, it’s crucial to stay hydrated—aim for at least 3-4 liters of water—and get plenty of rest. Use this day to relax, get to know your fellow travelers, and prepare for the adventure ahead. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2
Day 2: Leh Local Sightseeing After breakfast, embark on a day of local sightseeing in Leh. Start with a visit to Magnetic Hill, where you'll experience the intriguing optical illusion of gravity-defying vehicles. Next, explore Pathar Sahib Gurudwara, a serene shrine nestled in the Himalayas. Continue to the Hall of Fame, a museum showcasing Kargil War memorabilia, and then visit a local monastery for a glimpse into Buddhist culture. Next, head to Shanti Stupa for panoramic views, and tour the historic Leh Palace. Conclude your day with a visit to the Sangam Confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. In the evening, take some time to explore the local markets. Return to your hotel in Leh for the night.
Day 3
Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley (3048m) | 160km After a restful day in Leh, we set off on our expedition to Nubra Valley, traversing the world’s highest motorable road, Khardung La (5359m). The road is well-paved and tarred up to the checkpoint at South Pullu, but becomes more challenging with loose rocks beyond this point. Once we reach Khardung La, take a moment for photos and then descend quickly, as the high altitude can be taxing. We'll stop for a quick lunch after crossing the pass and then continue our ride. A couple of hours later, we visit the Diskit Monastery to see the impressive 32-meter-tall Maitreya Buddha statue. As we arrive in Nubra Valley, we are greeted by white sand dunes and the sight of double-humped Bactrian camels. Spend the night at a comfortable hotel or campsite in Nubra.
Day 4
Day 4: Nubra to Pangong Lake (4250m) | 260km After breakfast, we embark on a ride to the stunning Pangong Lake, one of Ladakh’s most iconic and photographed destinations. Although we won’t be crossing any high passes today, the journey via the less-traveled Shyok route promises to be scenic and thrilling. Our ride will follow the picturesque Shyok River and pass through charming villages such as Agham, Shyok, Durbuk, and Tangste. Expect a mix of slushy roads, exciting water crossings, and rocky terrain, so caution is key. Once we reach Pangong Lake, the shimmering blue expanse will captivate you. Take time to photograph the lake and soak in its breathtaking beauty. We’ll spend the night in comfortable tents by the lake.
Day 5
Day 5: Pangong Lake to Hanle After breakfast, we begin our ride to Hanle, a journey that promises to be both exhilarating and scenic. We’ll ride alongside the stunning Pangong Lake, pass through Merek Village, and continue through Chushul. From Chushul, we head towards Loma Bridge and then take a turn towards Hanle. Hanle is renowned for hosting the world’s highest astronomical observatory and is a restricted area accessible only to domestic tourists with permits. Upon arrival, check in to your guest house for the night, as hotels are not available due to the remoteness of the area. Overnight stay at the Hanle Guest House.
Day 6
Day 6: Hanle to Umling La Pass and Return Prepare for an exhilarating adventure as we ride to the world’s highest motorable pass, Umling La, towering at 19,300 feet. After breakfast, we set out for Umling La, a newly opened pass that surpasses Khardung La in height. The journey promises breathtaking views and a thrilling experience as we navigate this challenging route. After a day of exploration, we return to Hanle and spend the night at the guest house, as hotels are unavailable in this remote area. Overnight stay at the Hanle Guest House.
